June 2019 Forecasts and Discussions

Post by SouthSardiswx »

My oh my where has the Spring gone, as we move into the beginning of Summer will we get our Junuary? will we get a hot spell? will Gumpys golf game improve? will Uncle Johnny continue to post (I hope so we love you John) will Hawkie find a nesting spot and lots of trout. Will Antler man and Snowed out find their perfect temperature, will Stuffs marriage continue to flourish like his veggies. All I know is I'm 4 weeks away from first set of Summer vacation I can hardly wait. Enjoy the Summer everyone and continue to post it's awesome seeing more members on the board this year posting even in the quiet months you too T3, Abby_wx and Jr, Hounder and Stormer, Monty and others.

--Expect an unusually warm and dry summer across western Canada, especially British Columbia through the Yukon Territory. This is likely to lead to an active wildfire season in this region, with a higher probability of large fires that can burn tremendous amounts of land area. Later in the summer, smoke from large wildfires in the north may become a health issue at times across southern British Columbia and southwestern Alberta, this includes places such as Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary.

****In Canada, lightning causes around 50 percent of all wildfires (from National Resources Canada), however, lightning started fires are responsible for 85 percent of all the area that is burned in Canada on average.

--Increased potential for record-challenging heat over portions of British Columbia this summer.

I already have a lot of photos. I should open a new topic for that (like on the old forum).
I plan to take a photo of Pemberton, Lillooet and Lyttons stations in early July (if they are accessible).

I think some are on here but yes can they be put in a seperate thread plus all the others you took pics of. I remember years ago seeing the Lytton station just off highway 1 up top but l don't think it's there now. Back when l was in grade 6 we went for a field trip up to Whistler we went to our teachers cabin it was near Alta Lake. Well low and behold the weather station at the time for Whistler was taken there and of course l came across the location while going for a walk l got to see the set up the observer had it was one of those awesome experiences for me being a weather geek. Back then in the early 70's the obs. was sent by tele type the observer let me send out an hourly obs. too.

Models showing a rebound back to warm and dry after this week's showers (or chance of showers). Barely any snow left on the Golden Ears and on Grouse and Seymour. Very bare for early June. 2015 was a very similar year and that year the fall rains came early. I predict the same will happen this year. We will have to pay the weather piper sooner or later! Either a smoke show or an early start to the fall rains.

Lets hope the fall rains are delayed until October this year. 2015 and 2012 combo.

I sure hope not. Something more along the lines of October 2013 would be nice though.

Deep cold low SW BC on Thursday. Might get some snow at Mount Washington as well as south coast Mountains - 540 thickness giving freezing levels around 1600 metres!

Was October 2003 the wettest October on record? I remember the Squamish valley had like 700 mm that whole month, with most falling over a week. Other areas of the lower mainland got hit really hard too. It certainly was a pretty extreme Pineapple Express. I still have no idea why that one was so intense. Most of our AR events aren't quite that bad.
