Ditto. This summer has been so boring that any kind of extreme weather would be interesting.

I actually can't believe how dry August has been so far in my area. The grass is starting to turn yellow. Only 8.8mm in Burke mtn gauge . That's weak. That system about 10 days ago missed us and went south and north so some areas have had a wet august like parts of Washington have been much wetter. And some long range models are now showing strong ridging for late August into September. The CPC is showing that too. Indian summer. We are overdue for one like we used to see in the 80s and early 90s.
Yeah, the grass is almost completely yellow around here. I'm at 5.8 mm for the month. The damp July really made no appreciable difference... I guess the ground was already so dry that it absorbed the moisture before it could reach the root systems.

Sardisbcwx wrote: Tue Aug 20, 2019 12:39 am Thanks Abby Sr. they also have a unit with separate wind, rain guage and temperature sensor. So you can put your wind apparatus on a pole your rain guage at ground level and the temperature sensor on a north facing location.
Yeah, that's the major weakness of the Davis system, but apparently their new temperature sensor has a long cable so that you can separate it from the other components. That's reason enough to upgrade, IMO.

I was listening to Stuart McLean's Dave Makes Snow,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVlgiDDoTJQ,
while eating dinner and got inspired! Seeing as we've been missing the moisture to make snow when it's cold enough I started doing some research, it's apparently pretty easy (how hard can it be?) and not too expensive (under $100, probably US$) to make snow with the right equipment and below freezing temps.

Come winter, I'll be ready to give :team: snow a hand.

Beautiful photos. I hope you're having a fun holiday. I'm going away this upcoming weekend. Camping at Shuswap Lake then driving to Calgary area to see family. Then we are heading to Banff to do some more camping before heading home. Lots of fun. :D

Active end to western Canada’s wildfire season
Canada’s wildfire season got off to a quick start this year with massive blazes erupting across western Canada in late May.
But as of late, wildfires have not been as active across the region.
However, the changing of the seasons will spell a change in the wildfire outlook.
“The fire season is far from done,” AccuWeather Canadian Weather Expert Brett Anderson said. “We believe there may be a second surge in fire activity during the month of September from British Columbia to Saskatchewan.”
The region around Yukon and northern British Columbia may escape the worst of the fire danger due to the anticipated wet pattern heading into the new season.
“The main storm track this fall will be directed into northern British Columbia, but this will also feed mild, Pacific air into much of the West as well,” Anderson said.
“The snow season in the Rockies is also expected to get off to a slower start later this fall.”

Before that...
