Winter 2019-20 Forecasts and Discussions

Post by Typeing3 »

September is finally here! Many of our local peaks will begin seeing their first snow heading into October.

Down here in the lowlands, we've had a string of very good Februaries recently. However, the big question for cold and snow lovers in our region is...will January finally produce for the first time since 1993?

Some analogues of cool neutral ENSO coupled with low solar conditions. Pretty decent signal overall for a cold winter for the western 2/3rds of the continent.

Not much to go off of if we narrow it down to the most recent 50 year. 2016-17 was a weak nina.

1993-94 was a pretty meh winter and January torched

1996-97 was really good.

1992-93 could be added to the list as well...it's on the fence as solar was low but not as low as it is currently.

Warm Alaska and cold western US. Not terrible. These temp anomaly maps are usually warm biased. Hard to believe that much of the continent being warm.

September updates of a couple long range models don't look particularly encouraging...

Warming ENSO. Blob. Climate change. Warm to start. Trending warmer later. Lots of ARs. Hopefully no one bought a seasons pass for the local hills as ski season will be short to non existent.
