It’s currently 33.1C here. Honestly, given the offshore flow and clear skies, I don’t think 35C is out of reach today.

Hey all!

Super awesome out :)

CYXX max high so far 33.6C - new record for Abbotsford - perhaps for May? Does anyone know?

Perhaps the wind changed direction a bit - temp is down a few degrees. We'll see how we end up in a few hours :)

The upper level pattern is stuck unfortunately. We saw this alot last summer too especially in late Aug, Sept and early October. Get used to these types of outlooks. I'd post the 8-14 day but they're literally exactly the same.

18z gfs offers a reprieve from dryness. The EPS was starting to lean in that direction too but there's a long way to go.

You mentioned summer rainfall too; here's what that looks like over the years in Vancouver (Steveston/YVR) and Abbotsford.

That 37 is probably correct as there is a good heat island effect in that area due to all the pavement.

Boston Bar hit 40c in the 1983 May heatwave. I remember a 1993 May heat wave as well. More recently 2008 and 2018. This isn't that unprecedented. What would be unprecedented is the longevity of heat(10 days plus) if this ridge sticks around .

The 1897 May heatwave was right up there too. Spences Bridge hit 40.6c.

Edit: In fact May 1897 as a whole was really warm. Month average high was 25.4c in Agassiz! I think there was something wrong with that station in 1897-1898 though, as the summer temps were much warmer than surrounding stations (even though both summers were very hot). In the same month, Chilliwack recorded an average high of 21.9c. Still quite warm for May but more than 4 degrees cooler than Agassiz.
