Re: September 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
I wonder if 15cm is too generous. I'm ready for a '91/'92 repeat: a bit of snow late October into early November followed by dry, inversion hell. I remember our family biking around town on a sunny Christmas day that year around Kelowna; however, in the Okanagan I remember that as a very dull, cloudy, dry winter. I think December had only 4 mm of precip that year.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 1:56 pm I bet after a few years of being spoiled we're back to maybe 2 dry cold snaps and 15 cm at most for the season at YVR.

You mentioned Langley Lots but your signature says you live in Maple ridge. Where do you actually live?

And the correct answer was no.1 Rubes. we reached a high of 17.5c @ the pond in south Sardis with showers and just fall like all day.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 8:25 am They are probably looking for the first answer, but the fourth is a consequence of the first and also a cause of lower temperatures.
The second answer is the opposite of the truth (yes, the Earth is closer to the Sun during the Northern Hemisphere winter) and the third is just plain incorrect.

Re: September 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
The last I looked at the stats for YVR, snowfalls in the 20+ cm range are quite rare. There’s really not that many on record, considering how long the period of record is. We have done very well to have three of them in the past two winters.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: September 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
YVR is right on the coast, so makes sense. While still uncommon in comparison to other places in Canada, 20+ cm snowfalls are much more common at YXX than YVR. Hoping for at least one this winter. Hope I didn't just jinx it.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 8:35 pm The last I looked at the stats for YVR, snowfalls in the 20+ cm range are quite rare. Re: September 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
20 in 125 years, on average about one every 6 years. I’m sure there’s a lot more in the 20–24 cm range, so maybe one 20+ cm snowfall every two or three years?
Like I said earlier, we have done very well to get three major snowfalls in the past two winters.

YVR has only recorded one daily 20cm+ snowfall since 2008.
