WTF I guess Carney folded like a cheap Walmart tent and lifted the tech tariff to resume trade talks with Trump. This whole tariff thing has been going on for 6 months what a weak PM Carney is turning out to be this is just insane.

Bessent said the tax — which would retaliate against other countries that impose “discriminatory” taxes on U.S. firms — is not needed due to a “new understanding” with other developed countries over a global tax agreement the Trump administration has been fighting.

This was on June 26th, three days before Canada announced the cancellation the DST. Interesting timing.

Yeah, no surprise there. Carney will hopefully learn from this mistake (trying to stay optimistic).

But to be fair these new tariffs are more bark than bite. They just increase the existing 25% tariffs to 35%, while CUSMA-compliant goods remain exempt.

I mean, Carney can’t be the first rich guy with lots of investments to get elected PM.

So far as I am aware, he’s putting them into blind trusts, which is more than the current US president has done with his investments.

It’s not that he’s the first one to do it, it’s:
1) he told Canadians he has no conflict of interest and that he only has cash and real estate
2) he has the highest number of conflicts than anyone in history for Canadian PMs (apparently)
