Well, the gusts are higher for sure. This isn't a weak ass wind.

Yes. Gradients fall even more by 9pm. Good bet for at least 100km/hr winds.

From Brett Anderson:
Atmospheric signals are fairly strong and consistent in showing the coldest air relative to normal to be concentrated across the western half of Canada through at least the third week of January. The second and third week of January could be very cold, especially from northern British Columbia through Alberta. With the colder pattern setting up in southwest British Columbia starting the second week of January, there may be some opportunities for accumulating snow in Vancouver through the third week of January, despite the drier-than-normal pattern.

In the East, I just do not see any sustained cold through much of the month, though it may turn cold the during the last week of the month or in February. Well below-normal ice on the Great Lakes will persist through January, which may set the region up for an above-normal and late lake-effect snow season in the typical snow belts, if it does indeed turn noticeably colder in February.

Well the models do point to us getting cold so he could be on to something this time. He did pretty good during the December 2008 arctic blast but I admit its easier to believe or at least want to believe him when he is predicting what we all want so badly.

Check out how clean the back end of the front is. SW winds will be very strong in the wake of this storm.
