Awesome news. That's three of us now on the forum that have become dads--or will be dads--in the last three years. Must be something in the water.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2020 11:46 pm Been celebrating the news that I will be a father in 9-10 months. Monty will have to share some tips.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Getting ridiculous seeing that kind of cold move up in timing. Suffice it to say, there's no chance anywhere in the lower mainland will see temperatures drop even nearly that low.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Does anyone know what the general situation was in the week or two prior to the cold and snow in January 1950? I'm suspecting that may be what the GFS is picking up on (in other words, 1950 may be a good analogue for conditions in the past week or so).
Before everyone gets too excited, we can't really know all that well what conditions were. There were no satellites then, and a big part of the picture is what things were doing over the Pacific Ocean and the high arctic, and neither of those places is exactly well-covered when it comes to stations.
Bottom line is that while I'm still going to be cautious, and I still doubt it's going to be every bit as cold as the GFS claims, I think that this time there is at least a fighting chance we might see cold on the order of Feb 1989 or Dec 1990.
