It does seem odd. Did you live there then?

My memory of 1996 was snowcover lasting about a month here. But the snow was unusable and almost unseen. We had a violent windstorm a couple days after the snow stopped and the snowpack was mostly buried under fir needles and branches.

I wasn't, I was living in Hound's area at the time. Unfortunately, I don't remember how long the snow cover lasted.

It snowed in March 2017 also. I know because it came up on my Facebook memories. In fact, I think we had snow halfway through the month as well. After that it warmed up quickly and then the fires of hell took over the province by the first week of July.

Mine showed up on Insta today, seems like the whole corporation is insisting we recall the snow 2 years ago today

I don't know, those measurements seem pretty iffy to me. How was there 1 cm on the ground for an entire week despite the temperature being above freezing for 95% of that time?

I've noticed a few other oddities when observing snowcover at YXX.

During the Jan 1996 event, snowcover went from 37cm on the 25th down to 12cm only five days later. This was despite temps remaining well below freezing.

I got 3.4 cm of snow today.

Currently 0.4C

4.0cm here Jr. so uniform across the valley it seems, snow tapering off now. Euro snowfall maps plz. 43.5cm on the season blah! like wringing water from a rock.

Well we didn't get much but its the first measurable snowfall since February 14th here. Most surfaces are covered or partially covered except for the roads..just 0.5 cm or so but better than nothing!

Good for you no snow fall man not bad for March l suppose. More next week apparently and it looks like a fair bit more. if it verifys.

O.k. this new EC app is weird l got a message Snowfall warning ended, now l just got another one saying Snowfall warning issued again!

Yeah they ended it and then a few mins later reissued it. Now it reads:

Snowfall warning in effect for:

Fraser Valley - central including Chilliwack
Fraser Valley - east including Hope
Fraser Valley - west including Abbotsford
Snowfall with total amounts of about 5 cm is expected.

A frontal system is currently spreading snow to parts of the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Local snowfall amounts near 5 cm is expected tonight over eastern Metro Vancouver as well the Fraser Valley. The snow is expected to taper off later tonight.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
