Ensembles continue to show a cool/wet next 10 days followed by a significant warmup during the last week of the month.
I wouldn't count on that warm up. But the rains have arrived early this year butties. And yes cooler temps are great. Summer is done. We be lucky to see low 20s later this month. Or that much ridging for that matter. My guess is mixed bag at best later this month.

We will see butties..maybe a quick spike in temps would be a score. Otherwise the troff will likely return again. :shh: :shh:

The 06z GFS still looks toasty in the long-range. I wonder if this will be similar to last fall: cool, troughy September with a predominantly ridge, sunny October.

This September will probably be warmer and drier than last year.

I think that's quite common to get a couple weeks of cooler wetter weather sometime in September (in some years late August) than a return to ridging sometime between mid September and early-mid October. It's really not until late October where the fall pattern gets on full swing most years. I remember the late 80s and early 90s (and again in 98 and 02) this pattern was much more predominant. You could count on 3- 4 weeks of mainly dry weather at some point from Sept 1st to Halloween. Not a sure thing anymore for some reason but last year was a 15 day dry spell in October and 2013 was a 18 day dry spell. Nothing compared to the late 80s, early 90s where 3 or 4 week dry spells occurred in Sept and October quite regularly.

Had some pretty great winters in the 80s and 90s as well, let's hope for more of the same this year.

Somebody on YouTube was suggesting the lightning storm we had last weekend may have been related to Hurricane Dorian.
