It was quite hot yesterday and I think we're expecting pretty close to the same today in terms of temperatures.

Another fire at Davis Lake Provincial Park, right along a hiking trail.

It's scary to see the fires getting out of control along the Coastal Mtn Range.

No mosquitoes yet, so this is good. Perhaps this hot weather will harm their population growth.

Anyone notice how big the bees are this year. Seems unusual. I've seen some massive Hornet looking bees.

Stink bugs are still around as well.

Not much evidence of any wet period coming up.

I have mosquitoes, I'll send you some   Not too many though but I've dumped out containers of water with lots of up and coming ones.

High of 28c yesterday, 30.7c in Sechelt. Overnight low 13c here, 18c Sechelt.

Typeing3 wrote: Sun May 14, 2023 4:45 pm The 1897 May heatwave was right up there too. Spences Bridge hit 40.6c.

Edit: In fact May 1897 as a whole was really warm. Month average high was 25.4c in Agassiz! I think there was something wrong with that station in 1897-1898 though, as the summer temps were much warmer than surrounding stations (even though both summers were very hot). In the same month, Chilliwack recorded an average high of 21.9c. Still quite warm for May but more than 4 degrees cooler than Agassiz.
Kamloops has continuous records since 1896 and recorded its all time record May high in 1897. 100F (37.8C).

Just for fun, yesterday's highs. NOTE: there are only 87 non-lighthouse stations, 106 if you include them) so Summerland was one of the colder spots in BC! Crazy, because Kelowna (UBCO) was the 18th hottest place.

This is another interesting summary, but lots of these stations aren't accurate. Actually, probably most of the stations hotter than the EC ones are bunk.

Not saying that EC isn't right, but they aren't necessarily accurate to where the population lives and what they are exposed to. Temps are all over the map during extremes. I had 35 at my place at 10km to the West is was 31, 25km West it was 33. There is significant heat island effects due to the roofs and roads. Was it 37 in Abbotsford yesterday? Probably near South Fraser and Gladwin it was. But go 2km North and I bet it was 34.
