Re: Daily And Monthly Rainfall Totals
Wow, I had no idea it was this dry year to date! It feels so wet here in the interior this year, but I am so wrong that I guess it's appropriate to quote Ben Shapiro now: "Facts don't care about my feelings."

Re: Daily And Monthly Rainfall Totals
Same here relative to average... this year has only felt wet due to the persistent cloud cover.
Most of the traditionally wet months have been below average here. Only April and September have been above average. July was near average. All others were below average.
112.2 mm here in September so far.

Re: Daily And Monthly Rainfall Totals
I looked at YXX... they're at 723.8 mm for the year to date. The average for the year is 1537.8 mm, meaning they need 814 mm to catch up to average. The average for Oct-Nov-Dec is 565.1 mm.
Another interesting tidbit: we've been getting drier over the years. The 1971-2000 climate normals showed 1573.2 mm for the annual precipitation at YXX, compared to 1537.8 mm for the 1981-2000 normals. That's a drop of 35.4 mm or 2.25% over 10 years.
24.2 mm of the difference can be attributed to lower rainfall, but the remaining 11.2 mm is due to lower snowfall. Average annual snowfall declined by 8.3 cm over 10 years.
The warm season months; June, July, August and September, have all seen declines in precipitation. December and February have both seen substantial declines (-22.0 mm and -28.0 mm, respectively). Other months, such as January, October and November have seen modest increases.

Pick any random weather station in BC and you'll find that precipitation peaked in the 1990s. Here is one random example...Abby_wx wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 3:09 pm I looked at YXX... they're at 723.8 mm for the year to date. Buried deep, deep in the Environment Canada's website is this graph. How population has grown by 5 times with 10 times the number of tax payers (largely because women work too), and yet we can't afford to maintain 1/4 the number of weather stations.

Sherriff Goofs will get right on it, it should be an election issue to fix.Glacier wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 12:09 pm Buried deep, deep in the Environment Canada's website is this graph. With last night's rain, I'm just under 140 mm for the month (have to check the manual gauge for the exact total).

Crazy... that's the opposite of the direction we need to be going. A major aspect of climate change is increasing or decreasing precipitation (not debating the cause, just acknowledging that the climate is changing). You'd think that such information would be valuable for planning agriculture and flood prevention.Glacier wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 12:09 pm Buried deep, deep in the Environment Canada's website is this graph. Re: Daily And Monthly Rainfall Totals
Wow, up to 67 mm of rain at my place this month. Definitely the wettest month of year so far!
Massive freeze tomorrow, so I better pick my tomatoes. This will be the first froze in September in many years.

Re: Daily And Monthly Rainfall Totals
I don't have the time to look at other stations, but Abbotsford is in striking distance of this been the wettest month of the year thus far. After yesterday's rain we're officially at 158.3mm. Our wettest month is January at 160.9mm. I wonder how often September is the wettest or second wettest month of the year heading into October.

Re: Daily And Monthly Rainfall Totals
Yes, that happened in 2010 and in 1969. In fact, September of 1969 was also wetter than October, November, and December of that year.Mattman wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 4:43 am I don't have the time to look at other stations, but Abbotsford is in striking distance of this been the wettest month of the year thus far. I only checked the 10 wettest Septembers and compared them to the other months of those years, so it's possible there are other years where September was wetter than the previous 8 months.
