Congratulations to Boeser for hitting 40 goals, Miller reaching 100 points and Garland getting his 100th career goal.

And now here's some interesting Canuck commentary from a YouTuber I follow. Personally, I agree with his analysis.

Notice how no Canadian hockey players have ever scored 100 points with the canucks!

PS. speaking of Americans, not only is the latest 100 point Canuck American and also the best defenceman on the the Canucks is American. Also, 4 of the top 5 goalies are American (save percentage). Also, the first 66 goal scorer in the NHL is American...

I'm not saying it won't be Hughes, but I think it will be close.
Gonna disagree...Makar has been benefitting from a huge season by Mackinnon. Bouchard plays with the best player in the world. Playing with those guys will inflate your stats by a lot. Bouchard is a good defensemen but he's not an 80 point guy if he doesn't have Mcdavid doing stupid things like putting up 6 assists in a game, drawing all the defensemen to him and making his teammates wide open all the time. He's also had some insanely bad stretches and some highlight real bad defensive plays, like the other game when he dodged a hit only to see Matthews put it in 2 seconds later.

Hughes has been driving the bus for Vancouver, and the advanced stats show it. His possession of the puck dwarfs all other defensemen. he controls the game on a level nobody else comes close. And defensively that's a huge boost, he's spending his time in the offensive zone. Defensively he's playing a clean game, limiting errors and actually laying some nice hits. But mostly just keeping the puck away from the opponent.

Avs fans I've talked to have said that Makar has taken a big step back defensively and the stats bear that out. He seems to have a lingering injury and its showing. His stats are still insane which speaks to how elite he is...but I've seen avs fans themselves say that Hughes has him beat.

Josi you could make an argument for...but he's basically the same player with less points on a worse team. 4 more goals won't make up that difference IMO. This year is Hughes' year and the betting odds are overwhelmingly in his favour. Just put up another assist here as I type.

I couldn't agree more. Bouchard is overrated, and the stats show it. He doesn't drive play; he plays with McDavid. You should see some of Bouchard's horrible defensive plays.

Hughes has been nothing short of elite. He drives the Canucks. Pettersson, who is also overrated, doesn't help him. Hughes helps Pettersson and everyone around him. If Makar wins, it will be because of his name and reputation, which is foolish because it isn't a lifetime award; it's a yearly award.

I'm an Oilers fan and I watch 80% of their games. While I agree Bouchard is not as good as Hughes, he is a pretty damn good offensive defenseman. 44 of his 79 points have come from 5 on 5 play. That's pretty impressive, regardless of who you are playing with. He's not a defender, that's why he plays with Ekholm, who has been an absolute stud since being acquired from Nashville.

Ekholm is great. I always liked him, even in Nashville. But you saying he's not a "defender" just proves why Hughes is better. Hughes and Makar can play in the defensive zone and defend, hence why one of them is going to win the Norris and not Bouchard. Honestly, Drew Doughty should have been getting a bit more Norris Trophy love if he had more than his 47 points. The guy plays 24 minutes a night, more than any player in the NHL, and he's been terrific night in and night out defensively. But we all know the Norris is a point-related trophy nowadays..

I'm not sure where the debate is? I never said Bouchard was better than Hughes. In fact, I said the opposite.

I do agree the trophy is too skewed towards offense.

I wish they would factor offense in less. Don't get me wrong. A defenseman having a 100-point season is amazing, but they should factor in actual defending. Erik Karlsson last year had a great year by points, but man, he was horrendous in his own zone.
