Some serious blocking in the long range on the 00z. Early season snow or freeze on the prairies?

Nice to see so early on but hopefully it doesn't ruin our winter though I doubt it will. I have good feelings for our winter.

Seeing blocking show up this early with cold air intrusions into the continent is nothing but a positive sign for the upcoming months.

I'm not an expert and don't know how strong the correlation is but low solar periods tend to produce stronger blocking which favours cold snaps to lock in for long periods of time. This past Feb is a prime example.

I'm hoping we see a pattern lock similar to December 2008, but in January. :D

The ensemble mean for ENSO 3.4 monthly is in weak Nino territory by next April, otherwise, it's neutral until April next year.

Summer was warmer than average in Vancouver. Colder than average in Prince George though.

Warmest on record in much of Alaska including Anchorage...

Atmosphere is looking a bit bubbly as that weak low spins into the central island today.

EC says risk of a thunderstorm. Lots of instability but I don't really see any cold front coming in to trigger any storms. :?
