Warnings
10:42 AM PDT Saturday 14 September 2019
Rainfall warning in effect for:

Fraser Valley - west including Abbotsford
Rain, at times heavy, is expected.

A Pacific cold front will move across the Lower Mainland tonight. As it approaches, rain will re-develop later this afternoon or early this evening. A strong southerly flow will accompany the front, directing abundant moisture over northern and eastern sections of Metro Vancouver, and the northwestern portion of the Fraser Valley. Rainfall amounts near 50 mm are expected tonight.

The rain will taper to showers overnight as the front moves inland. Sunday will remain unsettled with showers and a risk of thunderstorms.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
A strong southerly flow is expected, so that means the YXX rain shadow will be in effect right?

Abbotsford lacks the good orograpgics that places nearer the mountains will see. But I don’t think they’ll be in the rain shadow either.

I was in Bowen Island for Labor Day weekend.

Here is a (very) old VP2 at the top of this building... Probably not in service anymore.

Shouldn't affect me too much, as I am north of YXX. While I do usually get less the Mission, I do typically get more than YXX.

Yeah, precip totals will decrease the further south you go from the mountains.

Highest totals will likely be over the NE sector with this one. Wouldn't be surprised to see 50mm+ totals at the Burke mountain station in North Coquitlam.

You got back just in time to miss Hurricane Dorian.

I'd love to live in Nova Scotia. It looks beautiful. Halifax area would be a good option. :D
Actually I just got back. I weathered Dorian in a rural locale on the west coast of PEI which had some of the highest winds on the island (besides the northern shores).

It was a blast but a bit scary because the power was out for a few days.

But yeah Nova Scotia and PEI are awesome. Didn't explore NB much though.

So I assume winds were way stronger than anything every experienced in the Lower Mainland?
