Yeah that Alberni valley can hold the cold in, must have been cold enough aloft as well.

Here in the Simlkameens it is finally warming up with some heavy flurries this a.m....leaving only a dusting as usual. But the strong winds funneling through the tight valleys are causing blowing and drifting snow. It's quite dark and grey right now. Really socked in here

Rainfall warning for South Coast. Run-of-the-mill 50-70mm here as it looks like the bulk of the AR will be pointing directly at SW Washington. Up to 250mm by Tuesday morning for the Olmypics and pockets of the Central Cascades. Even areas in the lowlands south of Seattle could hit 100mm. Western Washington gonna see some flooding.

They can occur in Feb and March too just less common. Actually we have had some strong ARs in March before. 1997 and 2007 come to mind as the strongest although we've seen heavy rains in March as recently as 2017. There were a few years around here where March was like "November 2.0". Although the last few years March has definitely trended drier. Cool, dry nw flow has been the trend. It looks like that's how March 2022 will start as well.
