Wasn't 99/00 a mild winter Tman? and 11/12 had that mid January event.

Yeah 99/00 was pretty much a write off. Lots of zonal flow with average/mild temps and lots of rain and a big mountain snowpack. There were a few slushfalls, especially in mid January.

11/12 we had a minor cold air shot with snow in November along with a few days of arctic air and snow in mid January. Fairly mild winter otherwise.

Yeah, usually if a winter is write off the year doesn't stand out to me, however the January 2012 event l recall Mission had 30cm of snow l believe Abby sr. did well, l was living in Maple Ridge at the time and had no more than 10cm to 12cm. The transition event was a bust had some freezing rain and very little snow in Maple Ridge Twinter.

Very true Tstats and of course the biggest rug pull we'll never forget for cold and snow happened on January 8th 2011. It's currently 5c @ the pond in south Sardis under part cloudy skies.

Looks like the QBO is trending positive and with a -ENSO, this winter could be interesting. :D

Of course, there are never any guarantees but -ENSO/+QBO combos are usually good for our regions in terms of cold and snow.

That said, we have 1999/00 as a tough reminder that such atmospheric and oceanic conditions don't always result in an epic winter here.
However, it worked out well many times in the past with 1990/91, 2008/09, and 2016/17 being some examples.

One can only hope.

Thanks for the positive info. Jr. man, if that was the set up for 99/00 winter disaster perhaps some other factors were at play to cause that unusual anomaly you may have to do some deep diving to look up the cause Jr. man let's hope it's not the case then this year that same anomaly has returned.

Background states are useful but by no means a guarantee.

Think of it as we have a seat at the table. Whether we get served filet mignon or KFC remains to be seen.

I like KFC, can't get it up here. I'd say filet mignon or KD.

Or perhaps liver with onions  that would pretty much sum up our winters most of the time.
Just not a sardine on toast please Ms. Friedchickencreeks.
