2019/2020 Ski/Snowboard/Winter Sports Season

Post by PortKells »

Buttes and buttettes! Let's talk about the ski season. What hills do you frequent? How is it looking? (terrible so far if you like skiing on snow :x ). What new gear are you riding on? Anybody have any exciting trips planned, and what are your dream locations?
My three main hills are cypress, manning park and big white, specifically the GEM lake portion.
My perfect winter would be to try out some other interior hills such as Fernie, Revvy, Whitewater and Golden. Oh and the new one near Osoyoos. Looks like a nice small town kind of mountain.
Hope that the gfs storm track is the truth and we start getting buried asap!

First!
Looks like about 15 CM of new snow late yesterday into this morning at BW. Can't wait to get up there.

I'm very fortunate to have married into a family that has a three bedroom condo penthouse that's ski in and out farthest up the mountain. The snow can be great. I think for me, having only learned to ski really two years ago, being able to explore harder blue runs is fun. The runs off Blackforest lift were fun last year. Likely working more technical runs this winter off Gem Lake. I've been so disappointed with the lack of rain and snow this winter. Had plans to spend four days up there for opening weekend but the lack of snow eliminated the trip. They're just now closing in on 100 CM and the full mountain opening so hoping to spend after the 15th up there once we get some fronts in over the next week.

Ski season cancelled unless they get snow soon this season won't amount to a hill of beans.

Big White kinda sounds racist, but you sure get a good view from the top. On a clear day you can see Tod Mountain (Sunpeaks), Silverstar, Apex, and Baldy. You can also see 202 km to Clearwater's Dunn Peak. From Dunn Peak you can see the 3rd and 4th most prominent peaks in Canada south of the Saint Alias Mountains (Mount Robson and Mount Sir Wilfred Laurier). To the west, you're only one degree of separation from seeing the 1st and 2nd most prominent peaks (Waddington and Monarch)...

Nice. I just read Silver Star is being bought out by a massive American company. I kind of want to get there before they make massive changes, inevitably.
