The winter as a whole so far stands at roughly C+

I'd give this past winter event a B+ as well.
While it was nice to see a classic arctic front, it was unfortunate that the Fraser Valley was left out with the initial snowfall. The next snow event that came Monday night was definitely top tier with around 30cm falling in less than 12 hours region wide. This was followed by another reload of arctic air, which is very hard to get around here these days. However, the overrunning event was a big disappointment. The Canadian models showed another 15-30cm of snow, which ended up being more like 10cm followed by freezing rain. If the overrunning event had verified or the event was longer in duration, I'd give this cold snap an A but the lame initial snowfall, busted overrunning event, and short duration lowers the grade.

Regardless of what models show now, I'd be surprised if we didn't see another cold and or snowy period this winter. Maybe not top tier but another period of at least modified arctic air and low elevation snows wouldn't surprise me at all.

With this wet period we've had I'm a little less concerned about lack of moisture, but I guess it wouldn't be bad to keep it going through the first half of January. That summer/autumn period really was bone dry.
No way this is too tier, yet. If that was it for winter this year than it gets a C- We didn’t get many days with snow and cold with sun hasn’t worked out much. We did have a nice dry November though which was nice.
Environment Canada posted a fizzle out of La Niña starting next month and season January to start turning to above normal temps and precip for later in the month.

By December standards, I agree for most of the region. If we include any month, it wouldn't make the cut though. It would be pretty far down the list mostky because of how many extremely cold Januaries we've seen in the past.
Also... standards for a top tier in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley are a bit different IMO, given the fact the valley has seen many more months over the period of record with a mean temp <0c.

I just don't compare now to last century. Especially pre-1970s. That was a different climate ago. My prediction is this event will be looked back on as top tier compared with the next few winters.
My reasoning is that good winters come and go in bunches and we've had a bunch of good ones. Now we are heading towards el nino like in 2009/2010 which preceded a crap stretch. With climate warming, El Nino looming and being due for a 99-2005 like or 2010-2016 like stretch. we may not see a pair of winters like 21/22 in a good while.
I desperately hope I'm wrong but my point is enjoy it when you have it.

Climate has certainly warmed since the 1950/60/70 winters but I am not seeing any warming in the last 30 years at all in winter

I'll agree that winters have sucked since the 70's. December's and Februaries have probably been as good as the 80's/90's but for some reason januaries have utterly disappeared now too.
