It exists, but so does long flu. Dr. Vinay Prasad is an epidemiologist so knows this stuff. People's suffering is real, but it's is a myth that this is unique to COVID.

A friend of mine has been off work since 0ct 2019 due to long flu. My only point is that these are things we have had to deal with for forever, but the media acts as if it's a new thing.

I'm sorry it has hit you. I hope you get 100% recovered in the new year.

Thank you and sorry if I came across aggressively. That is a common issue for me. However just the words long COVID is a myth would trigger many regardless of context.

It's hit me hard but not nearly as hard as many bed bound folks. This thing is super weird. And there is both a physical and mental component to it. I'm focusing on both and it's sort of working but there's a real relapse risk of you do too much.

The problem with the COVID vs flu comparison is that when you get a novel virus with no previous immunity built up and it's so infectious that even if in a vacuum COVID = flu, it's hard to say that because COVID is out there infecting millions more and mutating fast.

Meanwhile..the flu has been brutal this year too. I just got over one, sucked. I imagine if this guy is right we will be hearing about millions of long flu cases too which nobody needs. I hope that is not the case.

Here we go again. Honestly, it's ridiculous that instead of fighting for our freedoms, people are actually fighting for more restrictions.

Title: "Teachers, parents pressure B.C. to reinstate mask mandate days before schools reopen"
Author: Isabella Zavarise
Date: December 29th, 2022
Days before students return to school, some teachers and parents are calling for tighter COVID-19 protocols in classrooms.

Those protocols include the reintroduction of mask mandates to prevent as many students and staff from falling ill.

Annie Ohana, the Indigenous department head at L.A. Matheson Secondary School in Surrey, told CTV News schools are struggling to fill positions as teachers continue to get sick.

She said very few people are wearing masks, and that stronger messaging is needed from the province.

“A lot of people are vulnerable. For us, it would help if the government protected us in a way, by at least not pretending that it’s all said and done and we’re just moving on,” Ohana said.

Lizanne Foster, first-vice president of the Surrey Teachers’ Association, said teachers are perpetually concerned about COVID-19 outbreaks.

“There were high absenteeism rates in October and November, but that didn’t lead to any functional closures of schools,” she said. “It doesn’t seem to matter how concerned we are since nothing is done in response.”

British Columbia dropped its mask mandate in March 2022.

In a statement to CTV News, The Ministry of Health said schools “remain supportive, inclusive environments where masks are available in every class and where it is accepted and encouraged to wear a mask whenever people feel they need to.”

On its website, the province states prevention measures are in place to reduce spread of the virus. It recommends students and staff get vaccinated, practice health awareness and stay home when sick.

Kyenta Martins, vice-chair of the Vancouver District Parent Advisory Council, said the volunteer group would like to see streamlined communication from policy makers.

“We feel that education is definitely a tool that hasn’t been used enough,” Martins told CTV News.

“We know in some schools principals have sent out guidelines but not in other schools. It seems to be very school specific whereas we would really like to see that come from the district.”

Martins added in an email that Vancouver DPAC is concerned that viruses are causing hospitalizations and more serious health concerns among children.

Earlier this month, CTV News reported BC Children’s Hospital was struggling with high patient volumes, allowing two patients to a room instead of one.

Jr I've learned from this experience that some people will always disagree with your positions. Better to try to understand their perspectives and work with them on it. This shouting match back and forth is getting tiresome.

There are countries in Asia where mask wearing is just standard during flu season and not a big deal. It's not a freedom thing there. Just a collectivistic ideal that works well to keep things functioning.

These people want to end the constant disruption. Or avoid ending up like me, who is unable to work because of complications from an illness I got because a parent expressed their freedom to send their obviously sick child to school.

Personally I don't believe our culture is ever going to accept widespread sacrifice because we are individualistic at our very core. So I've come to accept that restrictions are never coming back and I just don't care anymore. Some people will get hit hard, that is the price we pay for this version of freedom.

Even without taking the personal freedoms viewpoint, mask mandates did not accomplish the goal touted by those who pushed for them (i.e. decline in case counts or death rates) or had very little effect. There's no difference at all.

Personally have no problem at all with people wearing them or not wearing them. Having a mandate either way is what I don't like.

Universal masking/mask mandates for covid doesn't lead to less cases or lead to a reduction in death rates. At least according to the corresponding data collected in various jurisdictions across the world as shared below.

With that said and acknowledging the data shared above. It is evident that masking certainly can act as a great psychological security blanket. Mental health can be just as important as physical health so it would be wise for those who feel safer wearing masks in a flu/covid/etc environment to continue wearing them. Otherwise we could end up in a similar situation to what happened during the mandate era, that really took its toll on the mental health of those who were against mandates. Would not wish that on anyone.

I'm not a big enough advocate for masks to care enough to continue that debate..I got COVID wearing a mask and I believe the one who gave it to me was wearing a mask. I still 100% believe that the wearer reduces their spit load and that will reduce transmission somewhat.

And I also believe that the majority of us wore ineffective masks and many didn't wear them properly. However it's only supposed to be one part of the strategy to combat covid, if you even believe it's worth avoiding.

In the end like I say my energy level to debate anything on covid is almost nil for a variety of reasons.

Also to a previous message of yours...I shouldn't have responded to glacier the way I did and I need to work on that. However I have suffered greatly and there is a ton of gas lighting towards long COVID patients, especially in the medical field but also from family, friends, and certain political movements. It kind of wears down your ability to patiently debate things when you are confronted with insane statements, even if they are given context.

I want to add something else. Thank you for taking the time to find studies supporting your points. It's refreshing in this era of Facebook research.

However..there are so many studies out there that are flawed, skewed or blatantly corrupt. Not to say the ones you're posting are that, but I don't have the focus and energy right now to read through studies to figure out if they're legit, nor to find the conflicting studies that inevitably exist. So you win the COVID debates based on that, I'm happy to say. I have no rebuttal on that level.

I hope you and yours dont get covid badly in this upcoming wave. I do hope that if someone has to get it bad, let it be someone influential who is opposed to believing in long covid stories and funding research that would help. This is an widespread problem.

It's just bad for everyone that were still talking about this. Hopefully it's truly as mild and nothing as i keep hearing. I believed that about omicron and I regret it majorly, but that doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't true, it's anecdotal.

Best of health to everyone here.

That's a very moving and heartfelt post Kells and l get what your going through and have gone through.
I'm not a expert on this virus nor will l get into on the forum l just don't have knowledge other than what l've read seen or friends that have caught it. All l can add is l know of someone that contracted Omicron back in September and is suffering long haulers he has a persistent cough and feels weak most day's not much energy and seems to have memory lapses as in forgets things from time to time it's scary really.
I'm not sure what his doctor told him l haven't spoken to him in awhile.

It's one of the worst things you can get man. Just stay safe. I know the talk is that people are living in fear but I believe there's a very good reason. We have the fear instinct as an adaptation to threats, real and imagined. For me it's real.

I just did a five day fast, hoping it helps but I feel like crap atm.

I'm sorry man..can I ask what kind of symptoms? I've noticed that vaccine injuries seem to mimic long-covid. Having experienced that nightmare I can tell you some of the things that have helped me (and 100 things that didn't tbf).

I've come to believe that micro clots are behind the majority of the symptoms. lack of blood flow and nutrients to the organs causes chaos throughout the body. The micro clots IMO are likely an overreactive immune response to spike proteins from covid or from the vax that are lodged into the endothelial cells, aka the cells that make up the wall of our organs.

Anyways...I hope things improve for you over time, and I would expect they will. It is hard though, by far the most difficult thing I've ever been through.

It's been getting worse over time. I feel since my last vaccine I never fully recovered. Si I feel like I'm continuously stuck in the 'catching a cold' zone feeling just as you are catching a cold. you know, muscle pains, weakness etc. Now it seems to be getting worse with the pain though. I can't say for sure it's from the vaccine, but I never had this issue prior, and it started after the fact, and since I never recovered fully from the second vaccine shot I feel it's related or it messed up my immune system. When I told my doctor he just scoffed at me, and said it was better than getting covid. I almost got up and punched him in the head. F'n Dr's are useless here half the time.
