Re: December 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Clear and frosty evening up here in Mission. There's also a brisk NE breeze. I've noticed the NE winds are more noticeable more up here than in Abbotsford.

Re: December 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
The number of posts I've seen this month on Twitter/social media from people on the East Coast saying " December we use to have snow now it's 50F every year" is insane. Everyone keeps asking, "What's wrong?" Yet the answer is right in front of their faces.. it's like turning the heat up in your house and letting it slowly rise, and then at 2 am, you're wondering, " Why is it so hot I can't sleep?" That doesn't make sense, right? Because you would simply turn down the heat. When it comes to climate change, for whatever reason, we question the warmer summers and winters, but instead of acknowledging the problem, there's a group that would rather just not. A lot of people do acknowledge there's an issue it's just hard to fix something when there's resistance on the wheel.PortKells wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 10:29 pm Yeah people will say it's a west coast thing/place where I live thing and we never get winter HERE anymore. It's a coping mechanism and I get it. The reality is tough to face.
It reminds me of my something my mom told me a couple years back on a visit to our cabin on the sunshine coast, which is on the beach. i paraphrase but basically she said "yeah the beach is lifeless now, it used to be just teeming with life. I guess these things go in cycles!" Yes, cycles. Everything becomes lifeless randomly and then reappears a decade later for funzies. Ecology and science be damned.
But on climate and specifically lack of snow, I've combed the internet and read these kinds of comments from people everywhere. Midwest, east coast, Scandinavia, Alaska, and on and on and on. It's always something like "its so strange! what is happening to the weather in my area?"
The thing is we've been ridiculously fortunate since 2016 in the context of our new and quickly warming climate. I have made sure to soak in every last second of snow and snow cover since then, knowing that another and even longer and more hideous stretch of snowlessness could be right around the corner. I am dumbfounded when I read how much things have sucked when in reality we've been served more than our share in comparison to most.
At the end of the day, I've realized that some people you can't change their minds. It's best to just say your piece and let it be. But this isn't a West Coast issue. This is a WORLD issue. Look around the whole globe and see how many places are having or had extreme summer heatwaves and deadly ones at that.
Our climate is living proof that something isn't right.

Yeah definitely when someone is just coming on to provoke someone. Agreed.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 9:54 pm I'm glad we allow free speech on this forum. I would not want anyone banned for sharing their opinion, even if I firmly disagreed with it.
What warrants a ban is when an individual is repeatedly rude and disrespectful towards other members despite warnings from the moderators and site admin. I would also add that repeated attempts to provoke another member to an uncivil argument would warrant a warning and a ban if the person fails to adhere to the warnings. So it's quite simple. Be respectful and we will respect your opinions even if we agree to disagree.
Let's keep this a fun and happy weather community.![]()

People are overloaded with other concerns. COVID, health care, opioid crisis, and a manufactured housing crisis...There was an opportunity to tackle climate change a long time ago but that ship has sailed. I think many are just trying to either survive or intentionally burying their heads in the sand for their sanity.Weather101 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 7:32 am

Re: December 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
As you mentioned, there are so many other issues that affect someone in the now. So, it makes sense to avoid climate change. The ship has definitely sailed, but I do know some people just deny climate change because they strongly believe it doesn't exist for some reason.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 8:20 am People are overloaded with other concerns. At the end of the day, life is tough, and the whole world is essentially becoming impossible to live in, unfortunately.

Circus time on the 6Z GFS was pretty snowy around the first weekend in Jan. Looks like the system would feed on some cold air from the interior.
It's just a
show for now. But nice to see nonetheless.
