How did Langford make out for snow tonight?Weatherhead2 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:31 pm The problem is there is a few who constantly get away with it. It’s confusing to us observers.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
The 00Z GEM has some snow Tuesday night. But the heaviest amounts are stay south. Now if that low comes in a bit further north we would be in the bullseye for a major snowstorm. Still lots of time to work out the details. But there's a solid chance we see at least some snow next week.

I’d take the less snow scenario. Less chance of things warming up as quick.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:52 pm The 00Z GEM has some snow Tuesday night. But the heaviest amounts are stay south. Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
I remember 1996. Going into it, it was contradictory: some models were saying arctic blast, others were saying pineapple express. Environment Canada went with the former, NWS with the latter. In the back of my mind I was thinking “Wouldn’t it be fun if the two collided? Feetz of snow would be the result! Naaah, probably will never happen.†Little did I know!
It's called clown range for a reason.

It was sure a very unique yet epic setup. Very rare to see an Atmospheric River collide with such a deep arctic airmass around here.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:58 pm I remember 1996. A similar scenario tried to unfold last winter at the end of our December arctic blast. Unfortunately, the airmass wasn't as cold as 1996 and therefore, most of the precipitation fell as ice pellets and freezing rain. Would be awesome to see 1996 repeat. Probably will eventually.

No model riding back then. You’d have to watch tv and hope for the red screen on the weather channel or call EC weather phone.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 8:58 pm I remember 1996. Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
I would take more snow and a quick warmup if it was December 1996 style. That would have been epic to experience. I lived in Prince George at the time so I missed out. It was extremely cold but dry. Prince George did get a similar setup in December 1990. My parents have told me stories about all the snow that winter. Unfortunately, I wasn't born until 1991 so I missed out on that one too.

This whole sh*t show on the roads would be avoided if they used SAND or a mix of sand and salt instead of this brine BS. Amazing how incompetent Metro Vancouver is.
