Can confirm. Two flashes of lightning too. Seemed like cloud to cloud tho, thunder sounded distant even tho it only took 3-4 seconds.

Saw it as well, the first one was apparently over Ironwood in Richmond, super bright here :lightning:

Radar loop, filesize is too big to attach it.
https://files.catbox.moe/r2lipv.mp4

167kA +CG in Ladner, 9:43pm
68kA +CG near 6 Road and Blundell, 9:48pm

Both were so bright I could see the flashes all the way from the SFU/Lougheed Mall area. Too far away to hear thunder, though.

Further south...

216kA -CG off Samuel Island 9:24pm
255kA -CG off Pender Island 9:20pm
182kA +CG near Astoria, OR 8:30pm
227kA +CG on the SW Oregon coast 8:26pm

Makes me think this is a squall line (not uncommon along on the WA coast or along the Salish Sea/Strait of Juan de Fuca), squall lines often trigger high-amp +CGs at the leading edge of the anvil base. Maybe the sunshine earlier this evening destabilized the atmosphere, and it wasn't picked up by models due to microclimate effects?

I'm not surprised you could see it, blinding white out here.
My daughter works in Tsawwassen and said it shook their building and blew their vacuum out.

This is perfect playoffs weather. We get a mixed bag of rain, warmth where you want to be outside instead of watching the game, and storms. It's been a while since we have had playoffs in Vancouver.

You mean a household vacuum cleaner? Or a commercial HVAC system?

It couldn't have been an A380 since Sea-Tac can't accomodate it. According to Chris Vagasky on Twitter it was a 787. Based on the given time of 4:45pm, this was ANA 117 to Tokyo Haneda, reg JA805A.

C-FITU was struck by lightning at YVR three weeks ago and that was also caught on video, by a student pilot. Flight AC860 to LHR. Made CBC News: https://youtu.be/yrJhSvVbqh0

You can tell by the single return stroke, smooth channel (lack of branching), and brightness that this was a +CG.

That's super useful. I guess I was wrong about it not striking ground. I saw both flashes, super bright, and the thunder came relatively quickly, but not very loud, which was weird to me.

Power is currently out again, so no station for a while.

It's been pouring rain most of the day today and quite cool for the end of March.
I had some extremely heavy rain showers yesterday too. 30.4mm for the day. Thankfully there were no power issues here.
