While that's good news, it still looks like 30-50% was damaged, which is awful.

When towns start burning down every summer you start to look for any silver lining you can find.
Wells and Barkerville are still evacuated, hoping for the best.

It's true, but last night or early this morning I was reading people say that the entire town was destroyed. 30-50% destroyed is better than 100%.

At least it wasn't a Lytton.
It's looking like after a couple of decent days early next week looks cooler and wet for a couple of days Mark Madryga looked excited tonight on Global news.

Yes Kells Wells/Barkerville seems to be out of danger. I like many others have great memories going up there stayed in Wells then went to Barkerville. Jasper either driving through or stopping just awesome scenery. Mount Robson lookout was always worth it.

Re: July 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
It looks like summer may be back once we get into August.
Enjoy the reprieve (for those who enjoy the cooler side of summer).

Either that or the hottest interior summer on record with the briefest of reprieves…

That's crazy!Canada Goose wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 6:29 pm Near record high dew points in MB!

I was just looking at the DP for BC, and it's interesting how the northeast of BC has much more humidity than the rest of the interior. I guess that's why they can grow crops there!
I know that in the Chilcotin region they thought they could when it was first settled, but it has the driest summer air in Canada south of the treeline, which means cold nights and hard frosts that kill plants.
At the other end of the spectrum is YVR, the most humid weather station in BC.

Re: July 2024 Forecasts And Discussions
It sounds like "only" ~30% of Jasper was destroyed. I say "only" in quotes because it's still terrible. Still waiting for confirmation. Most of the destruction happened in residential areas apparently.
