To be fair...I don't think we can compare the climate to pre-2010 anymore. New standard is maybe 2-3 snowfalls per winter and 1-2 arctic blasts. West Coast Ridging has been dominant and we've seen a significant decrease in Maritime Polar airmasses.

It goes in cycles obviously..highs and lows. It sure would be nice to hit some freak colder wave for the next 20+ years

Assuming December doesn't deliver, I'll be very surprised if we don't see an arctic blast of some degree at some point in January.

If a December 2016 pattern were to settle in for January, would that be enough to break the curse?

Most definitely! Traditionally, the hallmark of a cold month in Vancouver is an average temp below 0c, but in the current climate, below 1c is good enough in my books.

Since January 1993, YVR has recorded four months with an average temp below 1c. December 2008, December 2016, February 2019, and December 2021.
