Hawk wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 6:57 am Make work projects..the Govt at all levels is great at doing this and burning taxpayers money. You will pay even more taxes next year...and next year..etc etc., while they create more lame assed jobs where productivity is usually at an all time BC low. You ever see City workers on the roads?? Lol. 8 guys standing around a hole..1 guy digging..7 others laughing..joking.. chatting..texting..doing nothing.
As a govt worker our motto is most people are just pissed they don't have the same worker rights we do. Worked both private and public sectors in my life. ( much longer in the private ) When times are good honestly the private sector is better, larger raises better work conditions. ( competition between companies gives you power ) The advantages of public sector, more time-off, pension ( though unlike elected officials we pay 50% of ours ) not subject to the ups and downs of the economy. Personally I put in a solid days work most days  . If you see work sites with people standing around it could also be people working underground and you have to have a minimum number of people due to WorkSafe regs. Yes lots of waste but the truth is the salaries of most of the work force hasn't kept up to the private sector ( we are around 20% understaffed especially in the trades
) over the 15 years I have been there. The decision to salt isn't being made by the people driving the trucks, it is being made by somebody higher up who doesn't want to answer to the public if a shaded area remains icy and an accident occurs.
Back to the weather, rain seems to easing off here and thing getting brighter so hopefully a break this afternoon.

This is very true. Government jobs are not like they used to - private sectors have really caught up. Benefits are pretty weak and vacation leave is nothing competitive. Salaries are often below market value for many positions. The real pro is job security and pension.

Government workers that I've seen work very hard.

Yeah, pretty weak signal tbh but might as well keep an eye on it. Early March could realistically get cold this year, hopefully even 2002 style.

Wow Port Moody received 55 cm of snow in March 2002. Pretty amazing month in some spots.
