Yep. 29 years ago we all sat excitedly around our weather forum, discussing the upcoming snowfall. At the time of course it was not an "internet forum" as we know it now, but actually a physical forum/round table discussion where we discussed our opinions on the models at the time.

Of course, they weren't so much models, as they were casual glances up at the sky and whichever reports came through the telegram, followed by meaningless speculation. You might recall how we discussed how to deal with that "troublemaker" who kept suggesting that instead of feetz of snow, we would have merely a "footz".

Those were the good times.

It was torrential rain and flooding by the next day though. And I don't recall any more snow that winter. So suboptimal in a lot of respects as much as it was very impressive. i was called into emergency overtime at work downtown, living at false creek, there was very deep snow floating on false creek in the morning, and massive icicles coming off the lamp standards on the Cambie bridge on my way home in the evening. -6C and heavy rain as I recall.

Looked good but sadly nothing. There were a few flakes or snow pellets on the ground this morning and that was the full extent of the days' 60% chance of wet flurries changing to rain.

Ice storms seldom occur in Metro Vancouver (especially Vancouver proper), but yes, there was lots of freezing rain across most of the south coast after the snowstorm.

Hard to get a read on the models right now. Suddenly the GFS ensemble is picking something up around the 9th. Not a blast but a solid trough, maybe a warning shot? Is there an SSW happening?
