Re: Sports Talk
Setting up to be a devastating year for Vancouver soccer fans if the stadium situation isn't sorted soon. Great winter this has been, with the lack of winter weather, Canucks' reign of error and now this.

Agreed hopefully the provincial government will come through with a viable offer.

Re: Sports Talk
They left him off for Jarvis. Point got injured last minute. He was having a rough season anyways.

Re: Sports Talk
Scheifele is better than Jarvis, imo.
Point is a big game player. Unfortunate timing on the injury.

Re: Sports Talk
Unpopular opinion maybe, but international hockey has diminished competitively a bit. At least in the 3-6 best teams range. After that it's definitely more open, with teams like Switzerland and Germany actually looking pretty good recently.
But remember Sweden in the 2000's? Damn that team had it. Lidstrom, Forsberg, Naslund, Lundqvist, Sundin, Alfredsson, Ohlund, Sedins. The team now is decent, with guys like Dahlin, Nylander, Carlsson (injured), Kempe. But nothing remotely as good as those 2000's teams. Petey should've been their superstar, what a shame.
Finland. I just looked at their roster, it's actually fine. But there aren't a lot of young, promising guys pushing to be a superstar like a Selanne.
Czechia, this is a country I'd be concerned about if I was a hockey fan from there. Their golden generation had Hasek, Jagr, Straka, Slegr, Hamrlik, Hejduk, Lang, Rucinsky, Reichel, Spacek, Smehlik. Those aren't all superstars, but if you compare it to today's team, it's not even close. Pasta is nice and Dostal is good but that's not Jagr/Hasek.
Now look at Slovakia's 2010 roster: Demitra, Hossa, Chara, Handzus, Gaborik, Zednik, Stumpel, Satan, Palffy, Halak. What happened there? There's a handful of NHLers now, no superstars.
Of course, you have Russia and whether or not you agree with their ban, it sucks to have one less top country involved. They always have sick goaltending and some snipers. After Ovy though, not sure they have quite the firepower they used to, especially youngsters. Michkov has been a bit disappointing and nobody looks close to filling Ovy and Malkin's footsteps. I don't think they would be all that much of a threat in these olympics.
I kind of miss those days when Canada was favoured but things were definitely more open. 1998/2002/2006/2010 were unbelievably exciting. Now it's trending more towards that women's hockey disparity of Canada/USAS vs everyone else.

We don't have a super star goaltender as well Kells.PortKells wrote: ↑Fri Feb 13, 2026 1:11 pm Unpopular opinion maybe, but international hockey has diminished competitively a bit. Re: Sports Talk
People forget how strong we were when we had three all stars in net and 7 on D. This team is incredible too but it's top heavy. Hopefully the USA doesn't beat us with better defensive depth and goaltending.HarrisonSasquatchWx wrote: ↑Fri Feb 13, 2026 1:52 pm We don't have a super star goaltender as well Kells.
