Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Hi everyone.
I have been super busy with paperwork this past week and haven’t had time to read all your posts.
I have a question...... can anyone tell me what the chances are for lower mainland wide snow this February. I know the apps are garbage, but they all look consistent with a cold snap coming for the weekend/next week. That being said, do any of the models suggest snow? Thank you to anybody who can answer me.!!

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Very borderline set up for a brief spell of wet snow likely at higher elevations. The usual stuff. Long range is undetermined as yet but the 12z trends weren't exactly encouraging. Lots of time to shift however.SnowGranny wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 12:59 pm Hi everyone.

If you want cold and snow you really wanna see it before Valentine's day, After that winter is pretty much done with the meaningful stuff.

I thought that too...but March 2002 changed my mind. It was very impressive.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
On March 20th, 2002, YXX recorded 19cm of snow on the ground.
On February 24th, 2014, YXX recorded 25cm of snow on the ground.
On February 24th, 2018, YXX recorded 22cm of snow on the ground.
While March 2002, February 2014, and February 2018 are rare events, they do give us sufficient evidence to prove that a late season arctic blast can still deliver meaningful cold and low elevation snows. Its just a lot harder because you need a mid-top tier blast to do so.
Winter is not done here even if we don't see the colder air until mid-late February or even March.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Its hard even for inland and higher elevation regions. But its possible given a mid-top tier arctic front pushes in.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I always consider March 10th as the unofficial end of winter. There are some exceptions but the first week of March can often deliver something

March 2002 was the exception to that rule as 19cm of snow was recorded at YXX on March 20th, 2002.

It doesn't happen every year, but we can also still get frost and snow in April too.
