2007-2008 was lovely when I lived in Surrey.

The Island got screwed.

'07-08 was a pretty nice winter here in Coquitlam as well.

Lots of marginal events that favoured locales over 100m but lower elevations did well too overall. Had a decent amount of snow on the ground for Christmas and a snowstorm in late January too.

Come to think if it, that was probably our last significant late January snowfall. It's now been 12 years...

A few days ago I pulled the records for that winter for KBLI. Sadly, that was during the period NWS was not taking snowfall observations here. Very few consistently below-freezing spells. Must have been a lot of slushy wet melty glop.

Geomagnetic Storm Watches have been issued by NOAA for December 9-11th due to a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) that occurred on the sun on December 7th. A level G3 (Strong) Watch is in place for December 10th, which is expected to be the peak day of activity. CME-related activity is forecast to continue into December 11th, likely at G2 (Moderate) levels. These categories are based off a five-point storm scale: G1 (Minor), G2 (Moderate), G3 (Strong), G4 (Severe), G5 (Extreme).

The highest Kp forecast I see is for 5 on the 19th. Typically that must get up to 7 before the aurora is visible at this latitude.

We make a lot of jokes about pineapple express but honestly the pineapple expresses have been weak and lame for the most part as well. I remember way heavier rains and for longer periods in the past as well as flooding. These days we get a rain warning and it really turns out to be nothing much different from anything else we get unless you compare it to the mist crap we also get a lot of. I want 3 solid days of heavy rains and downpours, the type that flood stuff. THOSE are fun! Driving through the farmland today and the fields are decently flooded, but nothing like they used to get.
