It did, Jr, it did. And then it all fell apart 72 hours out. There is hope yet for those who hate the extreme heat.

38c-42c across the lower mainland will not happen. Will likely end up in the 33c-37c range.

Lets not forget those -20c/-25c temps forecasted last Feb got into the 72-96hr range too.

There's a splotch of brighter pink (96-100F) on the 4km resolution that's not on the 12km, which looks about the right spot for North Langley/Ridge Meadows. I do notice that anomalously hot readings on Wundermap are usually around that area too, but never really could tell for sure if that's just overexposure. I guess that part of the LM is just hotter. Anyone can confirm or deny for certain?

Temps in East Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, North Langley and Ridge Meadows generally are the Metro Vancouver hotspots during the summer.

The area can also really maximize cold potential on calm, clear nights during winter too but is also sometimes the first area to turn to rain (other than at sea level next to the coast) during snow events.

I'd assume its mostly due to elevation as the entire area generally is below 25m.

While it has easy access to outflow through the relatively wide Pitt River valley, that can also be an inhibiting factor for precip as we saw last Feb when places further west and south saw 8-10cm while that area saw only a trace of snow.

I would say that the areas along the mountains get hotter in summer because the air must be forced up to retreat from incoming marine air. Because of the high pressure sitting up over top, there is some resistance to this, and thus less moderating air in Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Mission, etc.

If the high clouds stay away and a record breaking airmass overhead, some stations in the Valley may actually crack 40C. Crazy.

The hottest I've seen it was either in July 2007, or July 2009 - both had very hot airmasses (09 lasted longer).

The one thing that made the 2007 event so memorable was how incredibly hot it was so early in the day. I believe it was over 33C at yxx, or roughly 92F by 9am. Totally insane. Felt like Vegas heat.

In the July 2009 event (July 29th specifically) - I remember driving through Abbotsford (temp said 102F on my car) the ENTIRE trip through Abbotsford, into mission, and towards Maple Ridge - except in mission (for about 5 mins) it peaked at 104F while driving between Mission and Maple Ridge in that flat section north of the fraser. I know vehicle thermometers are not overly accurate, however it gives a good example of how hot it actually was. Thankfully, in the shade of the campground at Alouette lake itself it was a more comfortable 86F

Yep - that was July 11th, 2007. Pitt Meadows was 29.5c at 8am. Temps peaked at 35.9c later in the afternoon.

The July 2006 heatwave was a quick hitter but was even hotter... temps hit 36.7c on the 21st in Pitt Meadows.

Theoretically it could happen.

I'm waiting for the GFS and ECMWF to sober up and lower those Sun/Mon temps though; 108f temps in the valley and eastern metro van just ain't gonna happen.
