The grid is not likely to be overloaded. Wintertime electricity demand for heating significantly exceeds any reasonably expectable demand for cooling during this event.

More likely that some crappy Vancouver driver slammed into a power pole again. There's this intersection at McBride and 10th in New West where you reguarly see cars impacting the utility poles. It happens at least once a month.

The other thing we might see is heat-induced failures of equipment. That may well cause localized outages, but it is a different thing than an electricity shortage.

I wonder how accurate that Cultus Lake location is ... I'm at the Vedder right now and while it's hot, it's nowhere near 35.8 yet

It's very difficult to find the national record of the highest min because there is a lot of wrong data. A few weeks ago, we looked for it with my friend on Twitter and it's probably around 28°C in southern Ontario. Here in BC, it must be around 26-27°C.

I recall West Van or the Malahat having some pretty high Tmins during a heatwave recently (within the last 10yrs).

It's not a good location. Concrete near the station. Building very close. Not well ventilated. Overexposed.
