About the heat wave:

Yale climate connections:

"Never in the century-plus history of world weather observation have so many all-time heat records fallen by such a large margin than in the past week’s historic heat wave in western North America. The only heat wave that close is the great Dust Bowl heat wave of July 1936 in the U.S. Midwest and south-central Canada. But even that cannot compare to what happened in the Northwest U.S. and western Canada over the past week.

“This is the most anomalous regional extreme heat event to occur anywhere on Earth since temperature records began. Nothing can compare,” said weather historian Christopher Burt, author of the book “Extreme Weather.”

Pointing to Lytton, Canada, he added, “There has never been a national heat record in a country with an extensive period of record and a multitude of observation sites that was beaten by 7°F to 8°F.”

It is absolutely unbelievable that a place like Kamloops, which has weather records stretching back 130 years shatters the old record by 10 degrees F!

Here is a table summarizing by how much the June temperatures beat the old record. BTW, the northwest, and especially Haida Gwaii was not that warm. In fact, almost all years surpass June's max there.

I did see that fire, but didn't take any pictures. I have pictures of today's fire on the east side of Vernon though...

And the other stunning fact  is we were all apart of history.
Not the kind we wanted but weather history nonetheless.

Luckily no neighbours called the cops on me. :cops: it's next to Chehalis park in south Sardis.
excellent location all grass around the Stevenson screen. Maybe it can be moved to the weather station photos thread.
I walk by there frequently and always wanted to talk to him (Roger Pannett). Finally did a couple of years ago and several times since and obviously have had very interesting conversations. Its not often you actually meet other weather nuts!

Transportation Safety Board is now opening a investigation specifically into whether a train caused the Lytton fire.

I am indeed the Garrison Crossing station since 2011. I am also the Nicomen Cres. one, that one is the Ecowitt HP2551 and also setup another Ecowitt at my sister and brother-in-laws place in Rosedale. On clear calm nights i've noticed it is often 2-3 degrees cooler at their farm. I figured you were fairly close by.

Quiet on here...weather must be boring

The one good thing about that 'impossible' and epic heatwave is that anything less than that doesn't worry me anymore. I saw something about a heatwave this weekend and was like ah, only 27, no big deal.

I am hoping for rain, my pastures are drying up. Any guesses when we'll get some?

Just back from the cabin...nice beach weather, can't really complain despite how dry everything is. The ocean is insane warm for early July. When I was a kid there was an amount of pain just going in the ocean but now its like a tad cool for 10 seconds and then you're good to go. The algae bloom was getting going, hopefully we can get some troughs to stir up the stagnant water but it seems to be more temperature based.

Speaking of which, the trends are interesting Goofus wise. A few different troughs showing up in the OP, two of them include rain. However its definitely an outlier in that regard. I'm hoping the 00Z Continues to trend in that direction soon.

What area were you in Mr. Kells? yeah not many members around all went into normal summer hibernation.
Unless we get some extreme weather event we won't see anyone until October onward.
