What area will you be moving to?

Initially North Vancouver (Lonsdale) but that’s just something temporary for the first month.

Lower Lonsdale? Nice area but not a very good location for snow unfortunately. Annual average is about the same as YVR.

For some reason, even the higher elevations of the North Shore don't do good for snow.

According to Environment Canada, the Cleveland station in North Vancouver only gets 48.3 cm of snow per year despite being on the mountain at 157 m elevation. That's actually, believe it or not, slightly lower than the Abbotsford airport, which on average receives 55.2 cm. This seems strange to me given the terrain of North Vancouver at face value would favour more snow. Coquitlam seems to be one of the best places in the Lower Mainland for snow though I know parts of Surrey do really well too. For example, the Como lake station in Coquitlam (160 m) elevation gets 67.3 cm of snow on average. Burnaby Mountain at 366 m elevation is even better with an average snowfall of 89.3 cm.

Does anyone know why North Vancouver is often in the snow shadow despite being up on the hill against the mountains?

Proximity to english bay possibly, l would assume warm air floods in there ptetty quickly.

Looking at the latest Euro weeklies. It does seem like we will see a ridgy period at some point in November and potentially into December. If we end up smack in the centre of an amplified ridge at this time of year, it will likely mean lots of fog.

Those average amounts are most likely even lower now with the new climate we live in.

For the month of November only. Most furnished apartments for short-term rent are in downtown towers and cost somewhere between $arm and $leg to rent. This one was slightly less money, and unlike the downtown ones parking was included. Short bike or bus ride to SeaBus which will dock about 2 blocks away from the office on the days I commute in person.

Still thinking of leasing a place somewhere in East Van for the first year. Would have liked to do get that done this month, but there were a lot of stages to both the work permit and the bank account processes. Each stage only took a few business days, but they all added up and then most of the month was gone.

Higher elevations of Burnaby and Coquitlam are also further east (inland).

Across the lower mainland, snowfall averages increase with elevation and with distance away from the coast. Note Stave Lake (elevation 110m) has an average of 89.6cm. It's lower in elevation than Como Lake hill in Coquitlam but further east hence the higher snowfall averages.
