I also heard (not sure if mentioned previous only forum) that TMX pipeline has been closed as a precaution until floodwaters recede. This means that the coast has lost access to a lot of oil, and petrol supply will face a massive crunch for at least a few days.

I think I saw something about that. Just goes to show how we are at the knees of Mother Nature.

Another bridge upstream will also need to be replaced since its all cracked up. A lot of this work cannot be done until the summer due to diurnal temp changes and conditions.

We are probably going to see a few temporary roads and structures put in place until major repairs can be done.
I wonder if they can take advantage of any of the temporary infrastructure they have in place for the pipeline. :dunno:

After watching some of the videos, I wonder if they will end up re-aligning portions of the highway as well. It seems that the river has carved out a new path for itself.

Almost unbelievable if you think about all of the destruction that just happened.

Sounds like most bridges over the Coldwater River have sustained damages along with portions of roadways near the river banks.

Alignment may have to go up 100m into the hills. It looks like it will no longer be feasible to have a route through the Valley considering the new channels that have opened up.

This is a project that will require a tremendous cost. 5 to 10 billion? I said 12 to 24 months yesterday but I fear this project could take longer to fully complete.

While this may not effect many people, I'm kinda bummed seeing the images coming out from Princeton.

This is the KVR trail, just outside of Princeton. This portion travels between Princeton and Coalmont. This is one of favorite riding areas in the summer. We often ride from Coquihalla Lakes all the way to Princeton via this route. Pretty sad to see what has become of it. I'm not sure who would fund the repairs on this, as it is most likely pretty low on the priority list.
