Get well soon Ms. Bugs.Leighbugs wrote: ↑Thu Feb 03, 2022 6:41 am Hey everyone. I've been unwell and MIA. Just had kidney surgery and am home resting so let's hope I will be back to myself again soon. I don't know who was more stunned, me or the person asking! This is simply UNACCEPTABLE and I apologize to the weather community at large as this is a betrayal of the highest order to weather geeks everywhere.
I promise henceforth to get my head back in the game. I shall not fail you again.

Returning to this post, and the GFS ended up being fairly accurate more than two weeks out! Fluky but score one for the GFS.

More on the mid to long range outlook:

At this rate, maybe we see a pattern shift in late Feb/early March with a cold/snowy stretch during that period.

Re: February 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
Atmospheric state really reflect a strong +ENSO state despite the SST in the E Pacific. 1999/2000 was noticeable for being a rather temperate winter but the upper pressure anomalies this time around is off the charts El Nino. There was a time where METs and climatologists put a lot of stock in the walker circulation but there's really a lot more factors at play. Models continue to show retrogression in the extended range, but take it with a grain of salt as LR modeling tend to default to the expected climatic state in lower resolution.

Re: February 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
I wonder how long it takes this pile of snow to melt? If it was dumped onto a north facing slope could it become a glacier after a few years?
Where does the snow go? This drone-captured photo shows an enormous pile of snow in Toronto following weeks of laborious snow removal after the extreme blizzard that impacted the city in mid- January. More than 80,000 tonnes of snow have been cleared from local streets, bike lanes and
sidewalks, according to the City of Toronto. That equates to the weight of roughly 15,000 elephants or 100,000 cows.
