And not enough ventilated + roads too close = too warm on hot and calm days, especially in summer.

I drove by the Summerland weather station today, and wow, has it ever fallen into disrepair! Did they move it? I didn't see the anemometer. Stevenson screen is removed.

Also, what is the silver/stainless steel looking thing in the first and past picture? I'm thinking solar radiation since Summerland is one of the few in Canada that record that.

You should investigate it. ;)

Hmm. Looks like a set up for measuring the energy budget of the site; the ratio of sensible to latent heat fluxes. Not sure what the upside down bowl is but the 2 white instruments look like radiometers.

Oh my that's absolutely horrendous  looks like someone's metal wok perhaps the screen was stolen for firewood, and the landscaping business probably went out of business due to Covid. :D

Nice Glace, perhaps the cement could be an issue when the wind is blowing in off the pavement what's with the lake? or was that minor flooding. :o

Excellent location for the screen however based on rain guage location its to close to the house could cause rain shadowing during strong winds,
weird location in amongst the garden.
Enjoying the weather station pictures from around the province goes to show the decay many are in thus the many inaccurate readings were seeing sad indeed.IMO

That's for measuring snow depth. All good automated stations have this. ultrasonic device above measures distance to above this reference point is snow.

That's Robert's Lake nearby. Nothing to do with the weather station. It's the largest lake in Kelowna (well, besides Okanagan lake), but it dries up entirely some years. This year it is really high.

I think those are for measuring particulates in the air. You can buy your own here: https://www2.purpleair.com/products/pur ... 7691708513

Thanks Glace which part of Kelowna is that? I’ve been to Kelowna several times but can't ever recall seeing that lake.
For a moment there Glace l was concerned it was flooding in your backyard.
As far as instrument locations have you noticed that several stations in B.C. are placed in very weird locations  from what looks like fairy gardens to gravel pits to over water like the Esquimalt location whoever was or is in control of quality control in B.C. has done a poor job.
When the DOT was in charge years ago l'm sure it was better run.IMO you would never find this in the U.S. l'm sure.

Roberts Lake is a lake that floods big time most years, and then if it's a dry summer, dries up completely. It's just west of UBCO, which is just west of the airport.

Vernon Bella Vista (AKA Davison Orchards).

No longer in operation, but they have just a cheap household thermometer inside the Stevenson Screen, but no ECCC thermometers. Paint is flaking off really bad. I should have taken a picture of the inside.

Probably cheaper for ECCC to just leave it be there than take it away.
