Tropical Weather
Hurricane Hunter aircraft about to reach the eye of Hurricane Eta to provide an accurate picture of the storm's intensity, which has been thus far mainly estimated. I have been interested in tropical cyclones for a long time, and this is top 5, maybe even top 3 in terms of how horrifying it looks. All I can do is pray with and for the Nicaraguan people at this point.

Re: Tropical Weather
So typhoon Rai is now Super Typhoon Rai again. After weakening to a category 2 after 9 (yes 9!) landfalls in the Philippines it has now undergone another rapid intensification in the South China sea and is currently Category 5. It's now the strongest typhoon ever for the month of December in the South China sea. However it will weaken rapidly as it curves northward and meets the Amihan (dry NE monsoon coming off the Asian content). Warmer than normal sst east of the Philippines and also in the south China sea had alot to do with the double rapid intensification as did lower pressure over the region, less vertical wind shear resulting in more convection, all associated with La Nina.

Re: Tropical Weather
Typhoon Hinnanmor is forecast to hit Eastern Russia as a category 2 typhoon! Has this ever happened before? If it has I'm sure it's extremely rare. Very weird track this typhoon took (is taking ) missing the Philippines and Taiwan, heading North churning between Japan and China then into South Korea, then out to sea again before slamming into Russia! That just sounds weird!

Re: Tropical Weather
That is a rather odd but a most interesting track Cmen, perhaps water temperatures play a roll it could be much warmer waters off the eastern Russian coast than usual thus preventing a slower breakdown of the typhoon.IMOCoquitlam79 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:53 am Typhoon Hinnanmor is forecast to hit Eastern Russia as a category 2 typhoon! Hurricane Fiona expected to impact Atlantic Canada land areas Saturday and southern offshore areas Friday.
The CHC is monitoring category 3 Hurricane Fiona east of the Bahamas as of Tuesday morning. This storm is expected to travel northward this week and transform into a large and potent post-tropical storm by Saturday. Most computer weather models are predicting this evolution. Currently the range of uncertainty with regard to the centre of the low when it approaches is approximately an 800 kilometre wide zone (cone of uncertainty) centered near eastern Cape Breton. Since we expect the storm to become quite large, the impact area will be very broad. The CHC will begin regular 6-hourly bulletin updates tonight or early Wednesday.
