Oh dear yes they'll chew anything l remember my old Cavalier a rat chewed my distributor cap wires there exposed in those old Cavs. Yes l was going to say it might be a deep dive fix somewhere is exposed to the cold that needs to be wrapped and sealed off.

Rats are bad and can do a lot of damage to a car. I just got a great trap though and it's actually catching them, they're so darn smart it's a challenge.

This is the only spot I can think of, otherwise it's freezing in the ground, or the house.

Yeah, pipes in the ground usually ground acts as insulation but maybe shallow then it's definitely a DYI project indeed to trace.
