Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I'm pretty sure Sardis is being rain shadowed by Promontory hill. Well Gumps almost time to move over to February, can someone turn out the lights when leaving January.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
My station is showing 62.4 mm since midnight, though it does lag badly during heavy rain... I estimate near 75 mm, but not home at the moment.

Why does it lag during heavy rain?

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I believe it's a design flaw... the tipping bucket mechanism can't keep up, and it ends up spilling some of the water before it's measured. A lot of people have reported similar issues.
There is an updated version that's supposed to fix the problem, but have to order from the US, so I've been putting it off because it's probably going to be expensive after the exchange rate, shipping, taxes and duty is tacked on.

The Ecowitt and Ambient stations have taken those issues into account apparently.Abby_wx wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 12:14 am I believe it's a design flaw... the tipping bucket mechanism can't keep up, and it ends up spilling some of the water before it's measured. Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah, Davis has been a little behind the times. They reigned supreme 15 years ago, but they got lazy and other companies began to step up in a big way.Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 12:16 am The Ecowitt and Ambient stations have taken those issues into account apparently.
I'm not sure if my next station will be Davis or something else. I hope I can just keep this one going for a few more years with some new parts.
One good thing I can say about Davis is they're pretty reliable overall. Some people have been running the same station for 10-15 years... those competitors have barely been around for that long.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Well the problem with Acurite is there weather station have issues, usually failure of some kind especially there 5 in 1 stations even the new Atlas the one I had back in summer not even 2 days old and the wind stopped registering on the console off and on. Thank goodness for Amazon exchange policy no questions asked returns. As for Davis very durable indeed but again I'm very pleased with Ecowitt I'm thinking of upgrading to the Ultra sonic wind gauge I can purchase just the wind gauge through their company.Abby_wx wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 12:19 am Yeah, Davis has been a little behind the times. Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
So yxx measured 67.9mm yesterday. I'm guessing they've received close to 15mm so far today, added to the other 15.7mm received Thursday night meaning thats close to 100mm storm total... Pretty impressive actually.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
I measured 93.4 mm, I'm guessing the airport got slightly more since it seems like western areas got hit a little harder with this event.arbetrader wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 7:14 am So yxx measured 67.9mm yesterday.
