Slight improvement on the 12z with long range 850mb temps over Prince George and Kamloops. We still need these to trend a lot lower.

Run to run change. Nor particularly subtle.

I count 6 members that are trending up against the grain. Quick math says 80% odds are those are garbage. I’d be curious to see what the mean would be if you removed them.

Looks like this may begin as cold onshore flow with fringe lowland snows before potentially transitioning to a cold/drier pattern as arctic air settles into the interior and Alberta.

Could be a similar progression to the late Jan '96 event.

That Tuesday night system is all over the place in the models. Some show absolutely nothing. Euro and gfs have cold rain and low snow levels. Ukmet has a 983mb low crossing central Vancouver island. Big wind potential with that scenario. And this is less than 72hrs out.

Looks that way in the models right now. I was think January 96 as well. Hopefully the ridge retrogrades to the sweet spot and stays there. Some of those ensembles look too far west.

Would you classify January 96 an epic event or merely a good one? I don't know much about it but I have read about the ice storm that ended it.

I'd say it was good. By our standards these days, you could probably say epic though.

About 10 days with cold onshore flow and temps hovering around 0-2c near the water with lots of wet snow. Cold pool in the interior leaked out into the valley meant temps remained below 0c with decent amounts of snow.

On the evening of the 27th, arctic air in the interior finally blasted out to the coast and temps remained subzero until the 30th. Was a pretty classic arctic outbreak (high/low of -4.5c/-10.1c at YVR and -7.7c/-12.7c at YXX on the 29th), but it was quick hitting.
