Re: November 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Ya, I had forgotten about 1893 (was thinking of extreme daily lows), and it is the in the running for the coldest on record. It was by far the two coldest nights on record at Agassiz (-23.3 and -24.4). 1909 was crazy too, although it seems that Agassiz was a bit of an anomaly. Still between 1893 and 1909, that accounts for 6 of the 7 nights on record which hit -20C. The only other day being Dec 28, 1968.
It's interesting how the LOW and the HIGH were both -20.6C on Jan 8, 1909! And it snowed 12cm! On the coldest day ever recorded at Agassiz! Only 10 km away to the west there was just a trace amount of snow, and much warmer temperatures (high of -14.4C).
In the interior, the 1893 and 1909 nights were cold, but nothing compared to 1950 and 1968/69. The daytime temperatures were just as extreme, however. For Kamloops, Jan 30, 1893 and Dec 30, 1968 are tied for the coldest low on record (-28.9C). Dec 29. 1968 is the next coldest at -27.8C followed by Jan 10, 1909 at -27.2C. Jan 1911 and Jan 1950 were also very cold with highs of -26.7C.
Since records began in Penticton in 1907 there have been just 5 days at or below -20C (2 in 1909, 1 in 1964, and 2 in 1968), the coldest being -22.2C on Dec 29, 1968.

Looks like Agassiz dropped to -20c on Jan 21, 1943 as well. That was another all time great arctic blast.Glacier wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 9:30 am Ya, I had forgotten about 1893 (was thinking of extreme daily lows), and it is the in the running for the coldest on record. Another reinforcing shot of arctic air followed in the coming days, with a high of -10c at YVR on the 21st and a low of -16.1c on the 22nd.
Other extremes across the south coast during Jan 1943 included a high/low of -13.3c/-18.3c in Abbotsford, -13.9c/-20.0c in Agassiz and -17.8c/-20.6c in Hope.
Extremes in the interior included high/lows of -23.9c/-32.8c in Kamloops, -19.4c/-23.3c in Penticton and -28.9c/-42.8c in Williams Lake.

Re: November 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Totally different animal in northern BC. Atlin has records going back to the 1800s, and by FAR the coldest lows were set in December 1917. Same goes for the Yukon where this was by far the coldest month on record. Anyway, Top 5 coldest days on record in Atlin:Typeing3 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 10:00 am Looks like Agassiz dropped to -20c on Jan 21, 1943 as well. That was another all time great arctic blast.

Extremes in the interior included high/lows of -23.9c/-32.8c in Kamloops, -19.4c/-23.3c in Penticton and -28.9c/-42.8c in Williams Lake.

Keep chins up, longer range forecasts can change overnight, and with the la nina and “ No blob†bias it wont take much for a Arctic blast to sneak in. This weather has been just seasonal so far
