I don't know about that... the 500mb height anomaly map for yesterday was a pretty dead ringer look for a classic blast.

But I'd also add there was also good good timing of the setup to coincide with a lobe of the PV from Siberia moving into the Yukon/NWT, joining up with the "home grown" arctic air, and eventually brushing into Alberta and northern/interior BC.

Low level cold definitely seems much more impressive than one would think by looking at the 850mb temps.

Is it a snizzle? It's snizzling here but it's so cold that it's coating a freshly brushed car. I shouldn't be shocked but somehow I am.

Edit: snizzle should totally be a meteorological term.

Should not come as a surprise but its snowing pretty hard in Nanaimo again. Haven't been able to get my piddly work van out for 2 days now and suspect I'll have the same lack of success tomorrow at the rate its presently going.

Very fine snow here, as you might expect at -7, but it’s coming down at a pretty good clip.
