It’s one of the easiest ways we get a snowfail instead of a snowfall here: too much cold air, tumbleweeds here, all the snowy fun caused by cold air clashing with moist marine air stays well to our south. Weaker blasts tend to be better for us if you want snow.

Its moreso about the tough orientation for big snows, as a weak blast could also mean dry with 2c/-6c days.

Tight N-S temp gradients (battleground setups) tend to be the best for producing snow around here... like Dec 2022, Jan 2020, Feb 2017, Dec 1996, Dec 1964, Jan 1954, Jan 1935, etc, etc. These can also be accompanied by very cold temps as a deep, cold, arctic airmass remains entrenched in the north and interior.

Timing hasn't really changed over the last couple days... looks like it should be cold enough for snow across the Lower Mainland by Saturday night. Not set in stone yet of course, but once we get within 96hrs, it's closer to a lock.

Looks good at face value. Ensuing that energy north of Hawaii doesn't blast northward is key. Would be much better if we see it drift eastward into California.
