Agreed. We won’t know the details just yet though. If I recall correctly, the February 2017 event showed up in the models 4 days out. We are not in that range yet so things will still flip flop around.Catnip wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 10:17 am Some put too much emphasis on "Arctic blasts" (not really on here mind you).
As some have just mentioned earlier, you don't want to see a big Arctic blast if you want to see snow. I believe we usually tend to score with an overrunning event with that setup. OR we slowly moderate and just get rain, right Neetz?
Snowfalls with temps at or just below freezing is how we usually get decent amounts.
Potential for a very fun period coming up if things hold up. Hopefully the fine tuning narrows and we'll have a better idea in a few days as to how things will unfold for the weekend.

Yea just looking at the airmass sliding into BC and I think a top tier blast is looking very unlikely.

Re: January 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
February 2017 was similar as the cold was originally shown to dig out over the ocean and then switched to a more coastal slider type trough around day 4. I could see a February 2017 type event being a possibility.

So glad I'm not in Oregon. Mid Washington might even be in trouble. Of course, we could be too but we are sitting in the best spot in the PNW as often is the case.

Arctic front meets stalled low? Looks like a convergence zone in eastern Metro Vancouver and the western Fraser Valley.

I agree. Seeing some similarities to Feb 2017 with this setup. Pretty much at the same exact timeframe too.

12z Euro had a decent 6 hour burst of snow (5-8cm) over Western Metro Vancouver on Sunday evening.

Re: January 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
18Z GFS has a better setup for snow. Trough is digging less which screws over our southern friends.
