It's crazy that the previous September record is so hot actually (37.5C at YXX). Especially during the tail end of the summer where the day and night are almost of equal length.

Fortunately, a lot of work has been done on those levees in the intervening years. 16 years ago the levees were in the opposite situation, with maintenance having been cut.
