Agreed but I prefer the bigger 30cm+ dumps. Would love to see another November 26th, 2006 repeat. Abbotsford recorded 44.1cm that day.

In this climate, we have to take what we can get. I'd much rather 3-6 inches verses nothing. But I'd obviously prefer a 30cm+ snowfall.

TBH I'm not really good at tracking those.

How could I check?
Wind speed, direction, temp drop, and dewpoint drop within a short period of time (less than 6hrs, could be 2hrs or less with a robust front).

I have observed more snow fall in the first week of November than in the entirety of March. While part of that is due to my March snow jinx, it is still the case that November is by far a snowier month, with by far many more good cold snaps on the books.
March snow is common in the Lower Mainland. Typically meagre totals, yes, but occurs in more years than not.

Weather101 wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 3:41 pm A counter-argument is that March already has higher sun angles, and with our microclimates, it is not likely to produce snow. With a warming climate, we warm quicker.

And speaking of the last few years only, again, who knows? Time will tell. If we score again this month and it happens again next February, we definitely need to revisit this and have a conversation about why.
I think one would at least have to expect March to be analogous to December. The latter month is a month removed from the supposed peak-cold month of February, while March is adjacent to it. Yet December is hands-down colder and snowier. It is not even remotely close.

Why is the shifting happening so much in one place and not the other?
It's called clown range for a reason.

Are you seriously trying to claim that March is snowier than November? Stats, please.

#March1951

Abbotsford recorded 63.4cm of snow in 48hrs and 102.6cm in 5 days with the March 1951 event. Likely the snowiest March on record here.

Mar avg 2.6 cm snow, 0.84 days of snow

Pretty even if you ask me

Climo :cancel: ∞ to 0.5 :14clown: GFS

Season total: 0.5 cm and TWO traces!
Peak depth: 0.5 cm (01/07/2026)
