I'm getting short bursts of intense heavy rain. Gusty winds too. Seems very convective.

Quite the cloudburst... looks like round 2 may be on its way, unless it skims by us.

Unfortunately those type of Arctic blasts don't occur in the PNW anymore. I believe YVR had a few highs in the -7C range with that one; today it's hard enough just getting a subzero high at the station, nevermind highs well below freezing.

Looking over the stats for November 1985...it was truly insane. Save for a high of 0.1C on the 24th, YVR recorded 10 subzero highs. This included a four day stretch where the mercury didn't climb above -4C with frequent snow showers. The high on the 27th was -8.7C.

Outflow must have been pretty strong and dry. There were huge snowfalls across the southern island while Abbotsford was mostly dry. Shawnigan Lake had 125cm during that stretch

Yep strong N/NE flow during that period. But what distinguishes that blast from those we see nowadays is that those blasts - while being relatively dry - actually produced temps well below freezing; in comparison, dry Arctic blasts today (ex. Feb 2019) feature comparatively moderate temps.

Well my Bowron Lakes canoe trip starts mid next week. The forecast? Not so good. We are at the wettest place in BC.

Apparently mosquitoes in the Caribou are really bad this year as well.
