All the salt on the roads will melt that shortly.

Ice is still getting thicker in the already frozen portion of the river in NE Surrey/Langley/Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge. Water flow looks to have stopped in other areas as well as the river begins to freeze, with higher concentrations of ice chunks/floes.
Imo, this is at least the most frozen and most ice chunks/floes on the river though the lower mainland since December 2008. I'd go as far as saying maybe since January 1993.

Salt already sold out. Bulk salt pricing getting restricted and bulk salt retail sellers have doubled the price.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah. Very unlikely we'll surpass that year. Cold was fairly significant and persistent. Fraser was more frozen up in spots and had a higher concentration of ice chunks/floes.
Unfortunately I can't find any pictures from back then so if anyone does, please share.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
FWIW, here is the data from various stations for January 1993. Cold snap began in mid-late Dec '92 but persisted well into the new year. 1993 was the last cold January (monthly mean temp below 0c) for the lower mainland.

Dropped to -9C last evening before the clouds spoiled our shot at a -10C. Cloudy and -0.1C currently. Shawnigan lake was still 99% ice free when I drove by yesterday.

Re: January 2022 Forecasts and Discussions
That cold snap was pretty darn impressive. Lasted about 22 days, during which time there was no rain whatsoever. Nowadays, we feel lucky to go 10 days without rain.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 3:10 pm FWIW, here is the data from various stations for January 1993.
