Re: January 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
Snow depth maps would be more accurate to show what actually is on the ground. A lot of these totals maps will have mixing in between and sublimation or impaction and are not reflective of what actually accumulates.

Re: January 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
One thing I forgot to mention is how different this scenario is going into this cold period. Normally you enter from a warm/cool rainy period, this time is very different. Almost all of January was dry and chilly, especially at night. So it's almost like a mini cool period has been around for a few weeks. I'm very interested to see if this affects the normal dynamics we see, or if it will be largely unaffected. I saw some pics on social media of frozen portions of farm fields in low lying areas. Also unusual without an actual arctic front. My curiosity is really excited to see the potential behavior of the weather over the next several days!

Yes, higher elevations only.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:09 pm I do not see accumulating snow for the lowlands tomorrow. Probably 2cm up on Burnaby Mountains.

Wait, so there's no arctic front? I always assumed all of our arctic air masses have one associated with it. I've learned something new today.WeatherPro wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:13 pm One thing I forgot to mention is how different this scenario is going into this cold period. I just want to clarify that everything before Saturday evening are possibilities. Only as we hit Saturday afternoon/evening is snow really guaranteed for most areas. Everything before that is a bonus!

Here’s what I found on the NWS site:VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 8:58 pm Does anybody know the formula that goes into the blend? Like, which models and what weighting they're given?

The 00Z Euro stays solid. Continues to show a major region wide snowstorm beginning Saturday evening. I can sleep stress free tonight.
